This Florida Native grew up in tropical Miami and summered in the mountains in Hendersonville, NC at her family farm with an on site grist mill converted to a summer artist’s workshop. While teaching decoupage to students and taking painting lessons from Florida artist, Artie McKenzie, it was very evident that art would be a passion.
A perpetual art class student since her mid twenties, starting at the Coconut Grove Art Center with classes in decoupage and acrylic painting, forays into many artistic mediums were explored over the years. Art history was studied and continued as a docent at the Lowe Museum in Coral Gables, FL and the Birmingham Museum of Art in Birmingham, AL.
After time at Florida State University in Tallahassee and the Sorbonne, in Paris, France it became obvious that a career in travel and chasing the French Impressionist paintings at major galleries around the world would demand a job with the airlines to support this lifestyle. Eastern Airlines and Alitalia Airlines were the facilitators chosen to continue this dream.
Always unable to draw, but wanting to, and never having the time to study ... this was not started until retirement .... After 25 years in Atlanta, GA putting my creativity into a family business of wholesale Italian gold jewelry importing. My focus in the business was gemology, jewelry buying and marketing. My husband, Frank and I retired to Vero Beach in 2003.
I seem to be always in a class at the Vero Beach Museum of Art. Multiple classes have been taken with Louise Cherwak-drawing, Jeff Halverson-mosaic, Dawn Mill-watercolor, Lian Zhen-watercolor and Kim Weisenborn Lopez - portraits. Annual workshops at Cheap Joe’s in Boone, NC with Kristy Kutch-colored pencil are looked forward to also. The Vero Beach art community is thriving with activity. I am a member of The Vero Beach Art Club, Vero Beach Museum Of Art , The Cultural Council Of Indian River County and The Florida Watercolor Society.
" Find your style" from a Vero Beach Art Club lecture by fish artist Kim Rody, is what I am trying to do now ... experimenting in watercolor, but finding that my style, just may be in pen and ink with a splash of color here and there, is the current direction I find myself drawn to. I probably draw more from natural things ...produce and animals than anything else. Part of the creative fun is naming my artworks with curious and unusual titles.
