A study by French neuroscientist Guy Azemar came to the conclusion that southpaws had the advantage in sports such as fencing because of the "fine and fast" movements involved. Artists may also be included in this study.

Pablo Picasso lived until the age of 92. There seems to be much debate whether he was left-handed or not.
Perhaps he was ambidextrous as was Florentine sculptor, painter and architect Michelangelo.

Leonardo da Vinci was an artist, philosopher and mathematician. He was a man ahead of his time. He conceived a flying wing and sketched a telescope 100 years before it was invented! He also helped us out by inventing the scissors. 

Michelangelo started the Sistine Chapel ceiling painting in 1508 for Pope Julius II. He was only 33 years old and lived to be 89. On the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, Adam, also, is left-handed.

Righties tend to use logical progression while working through a problem, while lefties tend to visualize things in an abstract manner. Some researchers believe that this is why more artists and architects are left-handed.

Best known for his Madonnas and his large figure compositions in the Vatican in Rome, left handed Italian painter and architect Raphael was born Rafaello Santi or Raffaello Sanzio. He  was born in Umbria and received his early training in art from his father, the painter Giovanni Santi.


Scientists have theorized that brain differences in left-handers may allow them to be more creative and to multitask.
